Vision, Values and Aims

Vision, Values and Aims

We have spent some time looking at our Vision, Values and Aims at Eastbank and we worked with pupils, staff and parents to update these.

We value the contribution that all pupils, staff, parents, carers and the wider community bring to our school and feel that by working together we empower our pupils to be successful, healthy and happy in their learning and to be the best that they can be. Our new school vision sums this up as at Eastbank we are.....

working together to empower, thrive, learn and be ambitious

We loved our old value characters but felt that they needed a bit of a refresh. We decided to keep two of our original values and change the other three. Our new values are:

Amina

Appreciation

Rebecca

Respnsibility

Robin

Respect

Sam

Safety

Tom

Teamwork

We are very excited about our new character designs and are looking forward to updating our values both inside and outside of our school!

Our aim at Eastbank comes from our school badge and is:

Splendeat Lux - Let Your Light Shine!

Our aim is that all our pupils are encouraged to, 'Let their Light Shine' in all areas of their life. We value their efforts and successes in school and beyond. Please let us know if your child has done well outside of school. We know that we have great footballers, dancers, actors, swimmers outside of school as well as mathematicians, writers, musicians and artists inside!

Promoting Positive Behaviour

We promote positive behaviour in many different ways at Eastbank. We use the PAthS program and encourage our children to, 'do the turtle,' in times of stress. It is always better to STOP, TAKE A BREATH, SAY THE PROBLEM and TELL HOW YOU FEEL. We would encourage you to promote these strategies at home. School staff find them helpful in times of stress too!

PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) is a an evidence based programme designed to facilitate the development of self -control, emotional awareness and inter-personal problem solving skills. The programme is based around a number of key strategies.

Rules

Children are taught the purpose and importance of rules.

Compliments

Children are taught what a compliment is, why they should pay compliments, how to pay and receive compliments and how they make people feel. Pupil of the Day concept introduces regular complimenting within the classroom.

Calming Down and Self-Control

Children are taught a variety of calming down techniques including ‘Doing Turtle’ and using the Control Signals poster.

Feelings

Children are taught that all feelings are OK (behaviours are OK or NOT OK).Through feelings lessons and the use of Feelings Cards and dictionaries, children develop a better understanding of how to label and recognise their own emotions and those of others.

Manners and Fair Play

Lessons teach children the importance of manners and fair play.

Problem-Solving

Children learn how to identify and deal with any problems that they may face. Progression through the year groups enables children to work up to using an 11 step problem-solving technique.
